“We’re in business, but we need you” is the message being promoted on behalf of Florida’s commercial fishermen in a television public service announcement that is airing in the Panhandle Gulf coast region later this week. The 60-second TV spot was produced by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to help counter the mistaken public perception that Florida seafood is unavailable or in limited supply. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has teamed up with Pilgrim's Pride, a North Florida poultry processor, to let Florida consumers know they can choose chicken that is fresh and local, produced right here in the Sunshine State.

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charles H. Bronson has announced that nominations are now being accepted for candidates to the Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2011. The deadline for submitting nominations is September 1, 2010. The induction ceremony will take place February 15, 2011 in Tampa.

Horse owners are urged to get their animals vaccinated following an upsurge in the number of Eastern Equine Encephalitis cases. EEE is a viral disease that affects the central nervous system and is transmitted to horses by infected mosquitoes. Signs of the virus include fever, listlessness, stumbling, circling, coma and usually death.

Pork Producer Delegate Candidates
The election of pork producer delegate candidates for the 2011 National Pork Producers (Pork Act) Delegate Body will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2010, in conjunction with a Board of Director's meeting of the Florida Pork Improvement Group at the Florida Farm Bureau State Office Boardroom, 5700 S.W. 34th Street, Gainesville, Florida. All Florida pork producers are invited to attend. Any producer, who is a resident of the state and has paid all assessments due may be considered as a delegate candidate and/or participate in the election. All eligible producers are encouraged to bring with them a sales receipt proving that hogs were sold in their name and the checkoff deducted.
